Welcome to the SalsaTonic website, here you will find information about our weekly salsa classes in Coventry and news about any schedule changes or special events. We are a friendly bunch and our events are all about socialising and dancing.

SalsaTonic is the vibrant new name for our weekly salsa night in Coventry, we love the new name and hope you do too. 

Our weekly salsa night in Coventry is well established and has been held at the Coventry SQ Club for the last 2 years. For the 2 years before that it was held in Studio 54. Our salsa night is one of the most popular salsa nights in the West Midlands and attracts enough people to run all year round. We don't close outside of the university term time and continue to provide a weekly salsa fix to local residents and students who stay in Coventry during the vacation periods. Everyone is welcome, not just students. We have a team of experienced salsa teachers and fantastic helpers and run 6 levels of class each week to provide you with a smooth and rapid progression from beginner level to all the way up to advanced level.

After the classes we turn down the lights and turn up the music on our top quality sound system for ninety minutes of Latin party music. Admission for dancing and socialising at the party after the classes is free. During the party we do occasional line ups to funky tracks, these are led by the teachers and anyone who wants to have a go.

We hold the classes in a large function room with a great wooden floor and a licensed bar. The drinks you buy at the bar help to pay the venue's running costs, so please help us to keep this fantastic night running by buying a drink at the bar. Please don't bring your own drinks to the salsa night, the bar prices are very reasonable and there are discounted drink offers for students.

Thursday Night Schedule:
8pm to 9pm Classes for Beginners, Improvers, Intermediates.
9.15pm to 10pm Classes for Beginners Plus, Improvers Plus,  Advanced.
10pm to 11.30pm Latin tracks for dancing and socialising.
Start time of Latin Party can vary by a few minutes depending on the length of dance routine.

Pricing:
£4 per person per night for all the classes (£2 per class), or £3 for one class.

Age Group:
The SQ Club salsa night is popular with both students and non-students and a wide range of age groups attend.

Admission is free for dancing and socialising:
We welcome experienced dancers or new dancers to come along and enjoy the music in our DJ set.  We play a mixture of classic salsa and vibrant modern Latin music with a twist of regaetton and bachata.

Licensed Bar:
The classes are held in a venue with a licensed bar to create a social atmosphere.
Please don't bring your own drinks into the venue as there is a licensed bar.

Dance Styles:
We teach Cross Body Style classes with some Cuban style salsa, Rueda de Casino, Bachata and Merengue thrown into the mix to provide a good coverage of the many salsa styles.

The Coventry SQ Club is at the top of Whitefriars Street. The postcode is CV1 2DT.
The venue is next to the Coventry Boys Club and just round the corner from the university sports centre.
The classes are held in the upstairs function room, the stairs and lift to the first floor are near the front entrance.
The venue has a wooden dance floor created specially by us for our weekly salsa night.

Parking:
The venue has its own free car park for 20 cars. There is free street parking on Whitefriars street. There is also a large pay & display car park at the top of Whitefriars street with a low priced evening parking charge of around 50 pence; the pay and display car park entrance is only 20m from the entrance to the venue car park.

Please arrive on time for classes to enable us to keep to the schedule and ensure there is plenty of time for dancing after the classes.

Do the classes run every week ?
The SQ Club Salsa night is attended by non students as well as students and so runs almost every week and not just in term time. We take occasional breaks such as Christmas week, please check the news and updates page before travelling.
If you are driving a long distance please call or email to double check we are running on that night to be on the safe side.

Paul B is an ex Warwick Student and founded the Warwick University Salsa Society in 2004, Paul taught salsa classes for the society for free for a number of years to learn to teach salsa.  Students from both universities are welcome to come along to our classes and events. Contact us to arrange group booking discounts or to ask us about guest teaching.
